Two-day monoprinting workshop

Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10:00 am - Friday, November 15, 2024 at 4:00 pm

A colourful introduction to the most playful form of printmaking

What is monoprinting:

Mono-printing or mono-type is a form or printmaking where each print is unique and unrepeatable. It is a playful, direct and exciting way of printing, and allows for a broad range of texture, shape and mark-making.

Mono-prints are created using an un-cut plate, onto which the ink is rolled, and then manipulated through various techniques to create an image. Common techniques include drawing into the ink, wiping areas away, and laying paper stencils down to mask areas out. The image is then printed onto paper, and the process can be repeated to build up layers and depth to the print.

What to expect:

This course provides an experimental introduction to all of these techniques, as well as an understanding of colour and ink transparency through multi-layered printing.

There will be a break mid-morning with tea/coffee and cake, and homemade soup and bread for lunch.

The workshop is run from the tutors garden studio – a spacious and calm place with meadow views.

The tutor, Lizzie Wheeler, is an Oxford based printmaker and a technician at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative.

What to bring:

– Apron / clothes that you don’t mind getting inky

– (Optional) Some themes or shapes to base your prints on. These can be very rough ideas, photographs, or even just a list of objects to give you a starting point, eg. seaweed, trees, birds.

Refund Policy:

Unless you are able to find someone to take your place, the following applies should you need to cancel:

Two or more months before the course date: I offer an almost full reimbursement (minus paypal transaction fees of 5% plus an administrative fee of 10%).

Less than two months before the course date: I can offer a 50% reimbursement(minus paypal transaction fees of 5% plus an administrative fee of 10%).
