”The Secrets of my Failure”

Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 3:00 pm - Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 7:30 pm
£11.55

An irresistible comedy in Greek with English surtitles, masterfully written by George
Iliopoulos and exquisitely directed by Anastasia Revi. The performance will take place at
the Cohen Quad, Exeter College, Oxford, on Saturday and Sunday, May 9th and 10th, at
3:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

In a play that balances between humour and disarming honesty, adulthood is presented not
as an achievement, but as an ongoing rehearsal. Drawing from the very “springboard” of our
lives — family, teachers, first friendships, and those first glances through which we begin to
understand ourselves in relation to others — the work unfolds, with both wit and insight,
the journey toward self-realisation.

From our earliest need to belong and be loved, to the obsessions of adult life — success,
recognition, image — the play illuminates the contradictions that shape us. Our
achievements and failures, our dreams and disappointments, form an identity that
constantly teeters between what we believe about ourselves and what we imagine others
see in us.

With a sharp yet self-ironic tone, the performance explores narcissism, the anxiety of
acceptance, and the fine line between healthy self-reflection and relentless self-doubt. How
much are we ultimately affected by the gaze of others? And how honest can we truly be
with ourselves in pursuing our dreams?
