The Oxford Moth StorySLAM: GENERATION

28 October @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

£13.70

The Moth StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a true, personal, 5-minute story on the night’s theme. Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show! Tonight’s theme is…

GENERATION: Prepare a five-minute story about being a product of your time. Old fashioned or new-fangled, Baby Boomer or Gen Z. The glories and pitfalls of your age group, changing times, and generational divides. Tell us a story about the shared experiences that define us, the differences that challenge us, and what brings us together. Tonight we’re talkin’ ‘bout your generation.

This StorySLAM is presented by Graduate Hotels, where local stories and campus legends come together to create unique hotel stays in college towns across the U.S. and U.K. Learn more about our sponsor here.

Please note: TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR

General Admission: Tickets for general admission. (Don’t worry— you can still put your name in the hat the night of the show, even if you don’t purchase a Storyteller ticket ahead of time!)

Storyteller Admission: Advanced storyteller sign-up. For those who would like a chance to tell a story!

How it Works:

7:00pm – Doors open. Have another chance to sign up to tell a story, volunteer to be on a judging team or just sit back and listen.

8:00pm (SHARP) – We’ll pick the first name and the show will begin. Each teller will have 5 minutes to tell his or her tale. After each story, the judges confer, and give a score. The teller with the highest score becomes our StorySLAM winner. The winner will compete with the year’s other winners in our next GrandSLAM Championship.

Be Forewarned: The Moth is for TRUE STORIES. OK, there won’t be a fact-checker there, and the FBI probably won’t dig into your files to verify the names and dates and places, but please know, emphatically, The Moth is not for fiction stories. The tiny fictions and lies we tell ourselves ARE part of our “true stories” but fabricated people, places or events are not allowed. The Moth is NOT a venue for readings; it is a venue for tellings. No notes, papers, or cheat sheets allowed. Contestants are judged on sticking to the five-minute time frame, sticking to the theme and having a story that sticks — one that has a conflict and a resolution.

Story tips: No standup routines please: The Moth LOVES funny people but requires that all funny people tell funny STORIES. Steer clear of meandering endings: Your last line should be clear in your head. Start in the action and set up the stakes.

**All Sales Final**

The Moth is an acclaimed nonprofit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. Since launching in 1997, The Moth has presented over 40,000 stories, told live and without notes to standing-room-only crowds worldwide.
