The Brave New World Of Publishing

3rd June 2024 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Print books continue to experience robust sales but how is the publishing industry changing and what are the challenges in the future?

Despite the doomsayers, the print book continues to experience robust sales alongside the eBook and audiobook. But exactly how is the publishing industry changing and what are the challenges in the future? Can authors make any money from print editions? Is the book the end product or is the book just there to sell the end product?

Oxford Technology & Media are delighted to welcome Professor Angus Phillips and Craig Taylor to lead an in depth discussion covering the dynamics of the industry, its links with other media, and the arrival of AI created narratives.

Professor Angus Phillips is Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing at Oxford Brookes University. Is this a Book? is his most recent publication (with Miha Kovač) – you can find them talking about the publication in a podcast on Spotify. His books, which include Inside Book Publishing and The Oxford Handbook of Publishing, have been translated into eight languages.

Craig Taylor is a Senior Lecturer in Publishing at Oxford Brookes University. His novel Staying On is currently in TV development with an Emmy-winning producer, with Craig co-writing the script and with Tim Spall attached. His 2012 novel Premiership Psycho was optioned for TV by rapper Plan B with him writing the pilot for Archery Pictures. He has a teaching specialism in the adaptation of literary works and has worked as a freelance structural editor on many published novels.
