Create Streets / OCLT: Creating better homes by creating better places – the Create Streets Approach

When? Wednesday 13th November, 5:30-6:30pm

Where? The Community Works, 21 Park End St, Oxford OX1 1HU. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

What? This talk, hosted by Oxfordshire Community Land Trust, will focus on how we can create the homes we need by adopting a place-based approach. We’ll hear about how attending to the balance and beauty of places, and taking community engagement seriously, can create healthier, more prosperous and more sustainable places for us all – and in doing so help address the housing crisis. And we’ll hear more about the influential concept of ‘gentle density’, which Create Streets has pioneered in the UK, taking it to the heart of government and national planning policy.

Who? Create Streets is a design practice, town-builder and think tank. They lead research, master-planning, design coding and community co-design to help develop and steward beautiful and popular ‘gentle density’ places which residents and neighbours can love for generations. You can see their projects here. The talk will be given by Create Streets’ Senior Architectural Designer, Robert Kwolek, and urban designer Ed Leahy. Prior to the talk, Create Streets will be delivering a course on Design Coding for Sustainable Development at Oxford’s Department for Continuing Education.

How? Free tickets are available here. Please do get a ticket if you’re intending to come as spaces are limited.
