Solstice evening walk at Gibbets Close reserve, Witney, West Oxfordshire

Friday, June 21, 2024 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Guided evening walk around WFT’s habitat restoration project in the heart of the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

Join the Wychwood Forest Trust team on a special guided walk around Gibbets Close Hill at the summer solstice.

At the moment the nature reserve is not freely open to the public, so this is your chance to see it early in its rewilding journey and learn about the cutting-edge ecological research being done here to combat biodiversity loss.

Take in the far-reaching views from the top of the hill and the magnificent veteran oak trees in the hedgerows. And keep your eyes peeled for the resident barn owls and bats!

Afterwards, enjoy a cuppa and a chat around the campfire as the light fades at this magical time of the year.

NB: the map above is automatically generated by postcode and may not show the exact entrance, so please follow the directions to find us.

Approaching via the A40 from the Oxford direction: after joining the B4022 Oxford Hill into Witney, the entrance to Gibbets Close Hill nature reserve is on your right through a five bar gate, opposite the signposted entrance to Windrush cemetery on the left (about 100m before the traffic lights at the crossroads). Approaching in the opposite direction from Witney, the site is then on the left after the Oxford Hill crossroads.

The entrance to the site will be marked with a WFT flag and you will be met in the farmyard by Neil.

We only have limited parking at Gibbets Close Hill, so please consider sharing a lift, getting dropped off or using public transport. There is a bus stop for the S1 & S2 bus just outside our gate on Oxford Hill.

All proceeds from these guided walks will go into funding the restoration of Gibbets Close Hill nature reserve.
