Relaxed Family Object Handling

5th August 2024 at 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Get hands on with some of our favourite objects from the Museum of Oxford collection.

Please touch! Get hands on with the Museum of Oxford’s handling collection and learn about the stories behind some of our favourite objects. Meet a member of the MOX team in the Museum Makers to have a chance to look up close, hold and even try on items from Oxford’s past.

This is an activity adapted for families with members on the autistic spectrum or those who will benefit from engaging with the activity in a calmer space. The object handling will run alongside a self-lead craft. There will be no background music and a separate quiet space available. You may come and go at anytime. You will be provided with a visual story a week before the event to support your visit. If you have any specific questions regarding accessibility or just want to get in touch, please email Charlotte.

This session is free to attend, but we ask families to book in advance as our relaxed sessions run at a reduced capacity. We are running a later drop-in session in Gallery One between 12.00-13.30 later in the day, which does not require booking.

Access requirements:

The Museum is accessible for wheelchair users and baby carriers. There is step-free, level entry access to the Town Hall is via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift and lift to the basement level. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor, before entering the Museum. Please contact the Museum team if you’d like to talk to a member of staff about your access requirements. Further access information can be found on our website: https://museumofoxford.org/plan-your-visit/access
