Georgettes of Oxford is delighted to offer Regency and Georgian Country dance classes on two Friday evenings a month in the Parish Room at St Peter’s Church, Wolvercote. Over this term we shall be focusing on learning more dances choreographed to music by Mozart (the first UK dance group to learn them) and by Purcell. Moving into the Regency we shall we learning Edward Paynes’ first set of Quadrilles, and in our advance class we shall be learning several more baroque steps while working on Feuillet’s Le Cotillion.
Classes we offer
Our class is split into three sections:
The Dance Class: 6:30-7:00pm – The first thirty minutes includes going over the basics of Regency and Georgian Country dance, including arms, simple footwork and easier dances. This is perfect for beginners and improvers. For those new to Georgettes and/or historical dance, it is recommend attending this class for the first term.
The First Season: 7:00-9:00pm – Our middle two hours focuses on learning steps and medium difficulty dances. More complicated parts of the dances will be covered in ‘The Dance Class’ section, so these two hours will be suitable for all. The expectation on attending this class is that all dancers know the basics of Regency and Georgian Country Dance.
The Nonpareil: 9:00-9:30pm – During the final half an hour of the class we learn more complicated footwork, baroque arms, minuet step and and work together on harder dances. This section is only suitable for intermediate level and above.
No partner or costume necessary.
Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear for moving and dancing around in.
Not essential but Ballet or Jazz shoes or Greek sandals recommended for regular attendees.
Over 18s only.
As well as learning dances our favourite Heroes and Heroines would have danced to, these are social dances and the aim is to have fun!
