Schumann’s only opera, Genoveva, has an overture with a dramatic trajectory to echo the opera, with music moving through ominous and wrenching moods, arriving at eventual majesty and triumph.

Bartók’s second violin concerto is a celebration of life and infused with styles from Hungarian folk music; played for us by Stefan Simonca-Oprita.

Brahms’ 4th symphony features warmth, lyrical beauty and tragedy, and is a firm favourite in the classical repertoire.
