Mindful Walk in Aston’s Eyot, East Oxford

Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

A gentle, friendly walk with guided mindfulness activities to help you slow down, recharge and feel more connected to nature

Ready to take a break from the chaos of daily life, and immerse yourself in the beautiful nature of Aston’s Eyot?

This guided mindful walk offers a unique opportunity to find peace, connection, and calm in the great outdoors. You’ll learn to cultivate a greater sense of presence, quietening the chatter of your mind and fully experiencing the beauty that surrounds you.

What happens on a mindful walk?

Each mindful walk is unique, with themed activities designed to suit the walk location, season and weather. All activities are suitable for beginners, and no previous mindfulness knowledge is needed.

Activities might include:

  • using your senses to notice little details eg listening to bird song, looking closely at plants, feeling the texture of tree bark or moss
  • grounding yourself through the soles of your feet with walking meditation
  • stopping to savour the natural beauty around you, or ‘treasure hunts’ to find natural objects that bring you joy
  • listening to nature-themed poetry
  • guided meditations to help you tune into the present moment, or notice how you’re feeling
  • time for space and silence, to enjoy simply ‘being’
  • opportunities to share in pairs or small groups

About Aston’s Eyot

Aston’s Eyot is a small nature reserve on an island in East Oxford. It’s formed by the River Thames, the River Cherwell and Shire Lake Ditch. The site of a former rubbish tip, it is now made up of a mixture of woodland, scrub and grassland and is home to muntjac and roe deer, badgers, foxes, red kites, kingfishers, herons and many other birds, insects, trees and plants.

About your walk leader

This walk is led by Sally Harris, an Oxford-based mindfulness teacher and trained natural mindfulness guide. Sally has led numerous walks around Oxfordshire and loves helping people connect more with themselves and the natural world.

This walk is free to attend thanks to funding from Donnington & St Mary’s Ward Green Party Councillors, on behalf of Oxford City Council.
