What to expect:

During this workshop you will learn how to make a one-colour lino-print based either on your own design or one of the examples provided. We will discuss the strengths and limitations of designing for a linocut , the different methods of making linocuts and look at examples. You will then learn how to safely use the different linocut tools, and which tools are used for which type of mark. You will then cut a small sample linocut to explore the range of marks that can be made. Inking up methods will then be demonstrated and explained. With your sample for reference you will prepare your design and learn how to transfer this design to the lino, before cutting and printing.

There will be a break mid-morning for tea or coffee, homemade soup and bread for lunch, and another break in the afternoon for tea and cake.

The workshop is run from the tutors garden studio – a light and spacious workshop with meadow views.

The tutor, Lizzie Wheeler, is an Oxford-based printmaker and a technician at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative.

What to bring:

– Apron / clothes that you don’t mind getting inky
