Community Growing Training for Group Leaders

A peer group for people involved in setting up and facilitating community growing projects run over four dates.

A peer group for people involved in setting up and facilitating community growing projects, land-based Community Action Groups, school garden projects, nature based outdoor learning and ecoliteracy.

4 sessions from 1-4.30pm on Fridays – 10th May, 7th June, 5th July and 13th September: your ticket is for all four dates.

We will explore themes around the joys and challenges of setting up and managing Community projects and delivering Nature based learning. The sessions will be held in person at Oxford City Farm in East Oxford. Each session will start with a brief training presentation followed by bespoke support for your project.

Session One

Introductions – You – What brings you here? Your projects. What’s going well, what’s been difficult, what’s your long term vision and what are your next achievable steps?

Introduce action learning structure and Ecoliteracy

Session Two – Cultivating and nourishing your project team- designing your project, working with volunteers, staff and your wider community

Session Three – Manifesting your vision and amplifying your impact- Project and session planning and delivery, increasing participant diversity

Summer Break

Session Four – Resilience and Sustainability- Organisational health check, fundraising, gathering evaluation data and managing growth

About you

We are looking for participants that:

  • Can commit to all four sessions (1-4.30pm on Fridays – 10th May, 7th June, 5th July and 13th September)
  • Are actively involved insetting up and/or facilitating community growing projects, land based Community Action Groups, school garden projects, nature based outdoor learning and ecoliteracy.
  • Listen actively and attentively
  • Ask questions that encourage other group members to understand the problem for him/her/themself more clearly
  • Observe the agreed ‘ground rules’ for conduct of set members

About our facilitator

The facilitator Phil Pritchard has participated in or helped lead Training and Action Learning Sets focussed on Ecoliteracy and Local Food with Good Food Oxfordshire and The Nature Effect. He also has extensive experience working in schools and supporting designing and managing school gardens, attending and organising training with Growing with Schools, Garden Organic, Social Farms and Gardens and Eat Your School.

Pay as you feel. Suggested deposit £50 to participate in the programme. We are requesting a deposit as a commitment to your attendance at all four sessions. If at the end of the programme you have found that the course has added value to your work and would like to donate this for participating in the programme you will be further supporting the work of Oxford City Farm, alternatively this can be refunded by getting in touch with us.

This session is led by Oxford City Farm Community Grower Phil Pritchard and is supported by WISH (Waste Innovation Station).
