BURNS NIGHT CEILIDH with Guerilla Ceilidh & caller Steph West

Friday, January 26, 2024 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

burns night oxford

Burns Night is an annual celebration dedicated to the life and works of the Scottish poet Robert Burns. It typically takes place on or around January 25th, the poet’s birthday (this event is happening on the 26th). The event is marked by a Burns Supper, a traditional Scottish gathering that includes the recitation of Burns’ poetry, the singing of his songs, and the enjoyment of a special meal.

Guerilla Ceilidh emerged from the festival scene in 2013, forming a joyful collective of like-minded individuals who passionately believe that engaging in partner-swinging, do-si-do-ing, and willow-stripping to the finest diddled music is the key to constructing a better world. Their lively blend of Irish fiddle tunes, dynamic guitar, and funky trombone bass generates mischievous and feel-good sounds that will set your feet in motion. Based in Oxford, the band comprises Lauren Spiceley and Giles Lewin on fiddle, along with guitarist John Ruddock and trombonist Tom Green.

Steph West (Caller), a caller for The Red Ceilidh and Tandem Festival, delights in delivering clear instructions, presenting playful dances, and cheering on dancers. Steph employs gender-neutral calls and has a selection of favorite Scottish dances for the occasion!

Collectively, the members have played or are currently involved with renowned groups such as the Carnival Band, Maddy Prior, Bellowhead, Rholben, the Brass Funkeys, Folkatron Sessions, bringing the liberating spirit of ceilidh to thousands. Anticipate an infusion of energy, mischief, and pure enjoyment!

All ages (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).
