This webinar will be hosted by Diane, our Neurodevelopment Consultant Midwife and Verity, expert by experience.

Autistic and Thinking about Pregnancy

At Autism Oxford UK we understand that thinking about becoming pregnant can be an exciting and anxious time.

Join Diane, our Neurodevelopment Consultant Midwife, who brings her firsthand experience of autism and has also partnered with NHS Trusts, the National Autistic Society, and various charities to enhance pregnancy care planning within the autistic community.

Diane is joined by Verity, who is an expert by experience in the field of both autism and perinatal mental health and a PhD student in perinatal psychology.

During this webinar, Diane and Verity will outline what to expect and ways of dealing with your thoughts, feelings and emotions and how to seek support.

This will cover:

  • Preconception advice
  • Coping with anxieties about pregnancy
  • How to ask for advice and support
  • Discussing your sensory needs with health professionals
  • Coping with healthcare settings and attending appointments
  • How to use hospital passports and birth plans

This webinar is aimed at autistic individuals, parents/carers, people within autistic individuals’ support networks and professionals; however, we welcome anyone who feels attending would be helpful.  If you do not have a formal diagnosis of autism or self-identify you are welcome to join.

We are holding a series of five weekly webinars from 18th April onwards which will cover the following topics- What to expect in pregnancy, What to expect in labour, What to expect after birth, Baby’s First Week and Baby’s First Month.
