The Northwestern Choir from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota (US) and is touring the UK in May. They will perform a variety of accompanied and a cappella pieces, featuring spirituals, hymns and classical pieces and will focus on music by American Composers including Hogan, Barnum, Helvey, Hermanson and Caracciolo. This is a rare chance to hear American Choral Music sung by an exceptional American Choir.
The choir has performed extensively throughout the United States and worldwide. The choir has a distinctive mission that integrates excellence in performance, service and cross-cultural ministry, singing choral music “direct from the heart”. Their conductor, Timothy Sawyer, has been a member of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, Minnesota (USA) music faculty since 1989 and conducts the Northwestern Choir and Con Brio Men’s Chorus. They will be accompanied by organist, pianist and conductor Ju Young Lee, originally from South Korea. She earned her BA in organ performance and church music under Dr. Myung-Ja Cho at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.
The choir are delighted to be joined by soloist April Fredrick, a graduate of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, Minnesota (USA) and gifted soprano with an active career, and a passion for nuance and text, the heart of both music and character. April has recently premiered the title role of John Joubert’s opera Jane Eyre in a critically-acclaimed live concert recording for SOMM records. April has a Master of Music degree and Ph.D. at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Jane Highfield, Ian Ledingham, and Dominic Wheeler. She now studies with Jacqueline Straubinger-Bremar.
