Orchestra of St John’s

26th September 2020 @ 6:00 pm

Orchestra of St John’s (OSJ) will perform Oxford’s first concert to real-life audiences since lockdown. The orchestra will perform a diverse programme—including Dvorak’s joyful String Serenade, Bloch’s lively Concerto Grosso for Piano and Strings, and Coleridge-Taylor’s bluesy choral work ‘Summer is Gone’—to socially distanced audiences on 26th September at Dorchester Abbey.

6pm and 7.45pm

OSJ have adapted the venue and their usual concert format to keep audiences safe. They’ll be playing ‘backwards’ in Dorchester Abbey, with the musicians in the pews and the audience spaced out in the large entrance hall. And instead of the usual hour-and-a-half concert, they’ll be performing a shortened programme twice so that more people can experience the event. Between performances, they’ll be donning gloves and replacing the audience’s chairs—and after the concert, it’ll be all hands on deck for cleaning them all!
